Business As Usual

Apologies for a less than stellar record of blogging this past month. I’ve been really digging my heels into my MA program, trying to get involved with my department as much as possible and, of course, balancing all the reading and writing that is a part of my degree. I’m working on a few final papers and planning to go back to the States for two weeks over the Christmas holiday. When I return, the papers are due almost immediately after New Years, which is a major bummer.

Since there’s nothing really “interesting” to tell you guys, (I mean, my days are spent reading and writing for the most part…) I thought I’d share some pics taken in the last few weeks. York is gorgeous. You all need to visit at some point, trust me. Life here is wonderful and I’m so happy to be living in this amazing place!

Autumn in York

Well, fall has officially fallen in York. The trees are all various shades of red, yellow, and orange. This city is so beautiful, no matter what time of year. The temperatures have dropped a little bit, so I’m wearing a heavier coat and scarf these days. Classes are going well and I’m already thinking of what to write my dissertation on. But I have to say, the transition into graduate school in a different country definitely requires a learning curve. I’m still learning my place in the department, what’s what, who’s who, where I need to be.

I’m still in the search for a church, I’ve been visiting a few and hopefully will decide on one soon. I’m just hoping to meet other Christians and learn some great stuff here in York. Please pray for me as I navigate my “new” life!

And don’t worry, here are some photos! Enjoy!

UK Style: Ankle Boots

I have come to terms with the fact that my flip flop wearing days are over for the forseeable future. Gone are the sunny summer days and relaxing in the hot sun! I’ll have to keep my toes warm and here are some stylish ways to do it! Ankle boots are perfect for the fall/winter seasons because they’re comfortable, chic, versatile, and endlessly practical.

So tell me, how will you keep your feet warm this winter? Drop me a comment!

UK Style: Autumn

My friend, Amanda, did a great post on her blog the other day about back-t0-school style and it got me thinking about my own school style and how that would radically change with the climate in the UK. I mean, I did my undergraduate work in Southern California! Jeans, Rainbow flip flops, t-shirts, and sunglasses were the everyday norm. I’d “rock” my hair in a bun, forgo makeup or jewelry, and saunter into class. And everybody thought relatively along the same lines. Sure, there was one random girl who decided to hike up Bruin Walk in 3 inch heels, but the rest of us just kept it simple.

Obviously, that won’t fly in England. I’m trading my flip flops in for leather boots and t-shirts in for sweaters & cardigans. And since I’m starting graduate school, which obviously requires a little more polish and style, I’m giving up my lazy bun and makeup-less face during lectures. Before, UCLA was a place for me to learn, not to be seen. But now that I’m in a graduate class of 10-15, there’s nowhere to “hide”. I’m putting my best foot (and face) forward!

So, I put together a little style inspiration on Polyvore to show you the kind of polish I’m looking for. Yeah, I’m still keeping my jeans and sunglasses. I mean, I can’t change everything! But I’ve found a way to upgrade it and bring it into a more professional arena. As you can see, I’m mixing jewel/neutral tones (my favorite) with hints of gold, set on basic black!
